The Fens and Back Bay

I decided to snap a few shots of the Fens after a speed run today. They were taken with my phone so they’re not great but I captured the rose garden and I’d love to go again when my parents come to visit. See more for a gallery of photos!

Bike Ride to Provincetown

I decided to have a friend bike with me to Provincetown. It’s a 128 mile endeavor and it can be done in 10-12 hours by a beginner cyclist like myself. The route consisted mostly of the 28, 6A, 3A and the Cape Cod Rail Trail and it was rather straight forward once we left civilization. We had some trouble at the Sagamore bridge where several passengers yelled obscenities at us but it didn’t stop us from risking our lives crossing the bridge. We quickly found our way back onto the 6A by running across the highway, jumping a girder with our bikes and running across to the exit. A policeman stopped near us later and apologized for not helping us out. After that we didn’t encounter anymore trouble and we were able to ride in peace.

It was such an amazing ride. I learned how to eat and drink while biking so we didn’t have to stop much except for our main meals along the way. Derian’s tire went flat so we had to go into Walmart to take care of that.  There were no bike racks outside so we took our bikes in with us, tried three different tubes on his tire, installed it and pumped it up all in front of a huge big-brother dome camera and went to pay. On our way out a man informed us that bikes were not allowed in the store as if that was the problem! I asked if he knew of any bike racks outside but he couldn’t answer… I rest my case.

We really surprised ourselves with how far we could push ourselves and we made it all the way to our destination. After mile 108 we were feeling it and Truro decided that hills were in order so we had quite a bit of teasing at the end as we approached Provincetown. Once we arrived we quickly grabbed burgers and onions rings and went right onto ice cream for dessert! We took the ferry back into Boston and biked home from there. For such a long ride we didn’t feel all that sore.
